I have seen many ‘Finishing February’ posts in the knitting blog-o-sphere which inspired me to do some WIP (work in progress) finishing myself.
First up, I finished some purple socks knitted as a birthday present for my friend. These took me a loooong time. This incarnation was started in September 2012, but before I started using the Seagrass pattern (from Toe-Up Two At a Time) I attempted to use Wendy Johnson’s Laurel sock pattern way before that. For some reason I kept putting this project down and getting discouraged with the patterns even though they are both beautiful. I finally finished them and gave them away and I was very happy to do so.
Next, a secret project that I can’t show you yet. It is beautiful and I love it so much. It is a gift for some very special friends. This project is a more recent start, January 2013, it only took 1 month to complete. By the time it was finished there were 508 stitches on the needle!
Third, I finished my Sanpo hat. I love colourwork and this chart is very easy to read, but I kept having sizing issues. I started following the pattern as written and found the hat was too big. I dropped a needle size and still found it was too big. I then decided to remove a pattern repeat and now I think it may be a bit too small.
UPDATE: I’m very happy to report that I finished a cardigan on Feb 28, thus including it in Finishing February! This cardi has a bit of a story. The pattern is called Tea Leaves and I bought it at Fibres West last year and I started the project soon afterwards using some stash yarn. The project got put down for a long time. When this year’s festival started approaching I decided that I needed to finish the it and continued working on the body. I tried it on to see how long it was and discovered that it was 6″ too large across the shoulders! Ugh. I had to rip out the entire thing! I did that 3 weeks ago at my Thursday knit night and I then restarted the project the following Saturday. It was pure determination that allowed me to finish this project so quickly!
Also, I forgot to mention the 2 projects that I frogged (ripped out). I decided that I would not be continuing those projects at this time which is a kind of finishing. I frogged a hat based on Hermione’s Deathly Hallows hat (the grey cable and eyelet one) and a shawl with a leafy, lacy boarder.
In all, it was a successful February for my knitting projects.

In other news, did you see my new logo?! Sarah of Stationery Bike Designs is amazing! I love the new logo and the little pretty heart (which she hand drew!).
